What is EGID

Created in 2009, EGID (European Genomic Institute for Diabetes) is an international research institute based in France dedicated specifically to diabetes, obesity and their complications.

EGID’s main mission is to identify the risk factors for diabetes and to better understand the mechanisms of its complications, to prevent the onset of this debilitating disease and to better treat patients.

EGID is the leading diabetes research institute of international visibility and the only center in the world with such a vast field of action in its field: fundamental research, university training, continuing education, prevention, prediction, clinical applications, industrial development and promotion of public health actions.

EGID obtained the laboratory of excellence label (Labex) as part of the “Future Investments Program” in 2011. This federation and this Labex are supported by the University of Lille, the CNRS, INSERM, the CHRU de Lille and the Institut Pasteur de Lille. They benefit from the support of Europe, the State and local authorities (Regional Council of Hauts de France and European Metropolis of Lille).
